The people closest to the work should have more power to move it.
Communities are full of people who know how to organize, build trust, move people, solve problems, and make things happen. They are also full of people ready to learn. What is missing too often is the infrastructure that allows that knowledge to move between them, become stronger through practice, and turn into greater capacity for everyone. Street Angels Institute exists to build that infrastructure.
We bring learning closer to the work and the people doing it, creating a place where canvassers, organizers, mobilizers, residents, community leaders, practitioners, organizations, researchers, technologists, and emerging leaders can develop what they know while putting it to use.
We believe expertise should circulate. A person should be able to learn from someone who has already completed the step in front of them, apply that knowledge while it is useful, measure what happens, and keep moving. Experienced practitioners should have a place to turn years of work into knowledge others can use. Communities and organizations should be able to bring real problems into environments where people can think, learn, test, and build around them.
This is learning designed around what people are trying to do, not simply what somebody decided they should know. Learn through the official Street Angels Institute curriculum. Follow a pathway. Study with a practitioner or thought leader.
Build a pathway around a capability you need. Join a Think Tank around a problem worth understanding. Put that thinking to work inside a Lab. Bring something you know or something you need to know.
The point is not to collect more information. The point is to increase what people can do with it.
Knowledge should move.
Street Angels Institute exists to build that infrastructure.
Who this is for
You can come here because you need to learn. You can come because you have something to teach. You can come because you need experience. You can come because you have experience to share. You can come because your organization needs capacity. Or you can come because there is a problem in front of you and you are ready to work on it.
Street Angels Institute is for people and organizations working close enough to problems to know that knowing more and being able to do more are not the same thing. It is for canvassers developing their field skills, organizers learning how to build power, mobilizers trying to move people from interest to action, volunteers becoming leaders, community members stepping into civic work, and emerging practitioners who need somewhere to develop real experience.
It is for experienced practitioners who have knowledge worth passing forward, organizers, strategists, technologists, researchers, facilitators, trainers, communicators, fundraisers, campaign professionals, and community leaders who have learned things through years of doing the work and are ready to turn that experience into something other people can learn and use.
It is for thought leaders who want to develop, test, teach, and expand their ideas. It is for organizations that need stronger people, better systems, additional capacity, or help solving a problem. And it is for communities that should not have to wait for somebody outside of them to decide that their problem is finally important enough to solve.
KNOWLEDGE
should MOVE
Learn through Street
Angels Institute
Street Angels Institute has its own official curriculum, built around the knowledge, competencies, systems, and practices required to canvass, organize, mobilize, lead, communicate, use data, build organizations, engage communities, and move work forward. Six practice areas. Thirty courses. Thirty problems people are already trying to solve.
Participants can take individual Institute courses or move through structured pathways that build competency incrementally, from understanding a field, to practicing it, to applying it, to demonstrating competency, to eventually leading or teaching within it. But the official curriculum is only one way to learn here. You can study a specific topic because it solves the problem in front of you right now. You can learn directly from a practitioner or thought leader whose work you want to understand. You can follow an established Institute pathway. Or you can build a pathway around what you are trying to become capable of doing.
Don’t just study the problem. Work on it.
Some challenges require long-term policy change, major funding, or government action. Others can be addressed by bringing the right people together to study what is happening and begin testing practical responses. That is where the Labs come in. Street Angels Institute connects learning to real problems inside real communities, giving participants a place to apply what they are learning alongside organizations, practitioners, experts, and the people closest to the problem.
The Think Tank helps us understand the problem. The Institute helps people develop the capabilities to address it. The Lab gives us somewhere to test what we think we know. What we learn goes back into the system so the next effort can begin further ahead.
We are building experts, too.
Expertise does not always come with a title. Some people have done the work often enough to recognize patterns, build effective processes, and understand things others have not encountered yet. Much of what they have learned has never been formally documented.
Experienced practitioners should have a place to turn years of work into knowledge others can use. The Institute creates that place, helping people teach, mentor, document, test, and extend what they have learned through practice.
Your next step starts with what you need.
The Institute works because everybody does not need the same thing. A learner may need knowledge. An emerging practitioner may need experience. A working organizer may need a better way to do something tomorrow. An expert may need a way to transfer what they know. An organization may need capacity. A community may need people willing and able to work on a problem. Street Angels Institute creates a place where those needs can begin meeting one another instead of existing in separate rooms.
